Metals Sector Full Turnkey New Plant Installation
Back to Case StudiesOverview: One of the World’s largest steel and steel products manufacturers engaged RRS Group to fully manage the installation of a cold forming tube mill. Working closely with our client’s own project team and the specialists from the OEM, RRS achieved a successful outcome for the client’s time and budget criteria as well as the critical health and safety key indicators on this large capital project.
Our Scope: To supply suitable skilled labour consisting of a CDM Project Manager, foreman, electricians, fitters, welders, pipe fitters and rigging teams, along with forklift trucks, Valla cranes, Versa-lifts, powered access equipment, lifting tackle containers, tackle vans and consumables. The project consisted of five phases:
1.Strip Prep 2. Forming 3. Sizing 4. Cut Off 5. Packing
- In addition – All the necessary ancillary equipment, electrical panels, perimeter fencing
- Offload, utilising our own specialist plant and our client’s internal overhead cranes
- Position onto new, previously prepared foundations
- Align, level, and fix with bolts and chemical anchors
- Connect to all services including the installation of all electrical cables and containment, hydraulic pipework and connect to mains services
- Creation of the Pre-Construction Phase Plan & Construction Phase Plan
- The Health & Safety file
- The full-time CDM Coordinator
- A full-time project manager
Our Approach: Our decades of experience allowed us to approach this long-term project and a blue-chip client with energy and focus. It required thorough planning beforehand, working closely with our client and our CDM coordinator to set up the site with the pre-start arrangements, brief all site personnel and establish the site office. Working with the agreed project timing plan, client communication was vital and detailed. Each day the task briefing and tool-box talk was carried out and supervisors fully engaged with the desired outcomes. Risk Assessments and Method Statements were created by RRS and approved and signed by our client. Progress was recorded at every step and commercial and technical indicators assessed in the daily meetings. A challenging project was met with positivity and completed to our client’s complete satisfaction.
